Krakow’s most exclusive hotel, the Grand dates from the late 19th century but was completely renovated in the 1990s. The sumptuous interior contains delectable stucco decoration, polychrome beams, restored fireplaces, paintings and antique furniture. The 62 guestrooms vary in size due to the age of the building. Each one displays a variety of architectural detail and ornament, ideally matched to the period furniture and luxurious tapestries, always bringing to mind the Duke and Duchess Czartoryski, who residence the building originally was. All are clean and well maintained, as are the tiled en suite bathrooms. The hotel’s Mirror Hall Restaurant is a local landmark in itself. Covered with a stained glass window and featuring a Secession-period roof, it is full of the glitter of crystals and mirror reflections. The corners also have cosy studio spaces and boxes incorporated in them, ideally suited for more intimate dinners. The exquisite cuisine is predominantly European, influenced by the best of Polish recipes. Almost as stunning is the Vienna Café, full of the rich aroma of Krakow’s best coffee. It is particularly celebrated for its rose ice cream - a Grand Hotel private recipe - as well as its cheese cake, apple pie and unrivalled fruit tarts.
